Brian McCoy, Candidate for Washington County Commissioner in District 5, offered this elaboration on the pledge:

As County Commissioner, I will:

Use my office to support transgender people as they fight discrimination in Washington County, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect in every county system and service. My ACLU experience taught me that civil rights protections are strongest when local leaders take an active role in defending them.

Work with county departments to ensure gender‑neutral bathrooms are accessible in county buildings, removing barriers that undermine safety and belonging for transgender and nonbinary residents.

Introduce resolutions recognizing Pride Month, Transgender Day of Visibility, and Transgender Day of Remembrance, affirming that Washington County values and honors LGBTQ+ residents and acknowledges the challenges they face.

Include transgender individuals in advisory and decision‑making spaces within my office, ensuring that policies affecting the community are shaped with them, not for them. My career in community engagement from the ACLU to MnDOT to county boards has shown me that the most effective policies come from listening directly to those impacted.

Champion equitable access to county services, including health, housing, public safety, and youth support programs, ensuring transgender residents can navigate county systems without fear or discrimination.

Stand publicly and consistently against anti‑trans rhetoric and policies, using my platform to promote understanding, safety, and community solidarity.
